Right for You?
  • You have healed burn scars that restrict your movement (contractures).
  • You have bald patches on your scalp due to previous burn injuries.
  • You have aesthetic deformities or uneven skin texture caused by burns.
  • Your burn injuries have fully healed and the scars are mature.
  • You understand that the goal is improvement of function and appearance, not total erasure of scars.
Common Myths
  • "Scars can be erased completely." -> False. Burn reconstruction can significantly improve appearance and function, but it cannot make scars disappear entirely.
  • "It's only for looks." -> False. The primary goal is often functional; releasing tight bands that prevent the patient from moving their neck, arms, or fingers.
  • "One surgery fixes it." -> False. Severe burn reconstruction is often a multi-stage process requiring several surgeries over time (e.g., tissue expansion).

How Does Burn Trauma Happen?

There are many factors that cause the burn damage. The hot liquids (such as hot water or tea) are the most common burning agents, and the temperature of the liquid and exposure time are the most important factors influencing the degree of burn. However, the flame burns, glare burns, contact burns, and electrical burns are other common types of burns. The burn surgery with the burn treatment allows you to repair and eliminate burn damage and scars.

Many different problems can occur in the late period depending on burns. These problems are treated with the Plastic and Reconstructive surgery approaches.

The problems that can occur in the late period depending on burn trauma:

  • Deformities depending on Scar (Epulosis) Tissue
  • Alopecia (hair loss depending on burn on the scalp)
  • Scar Contraction (Scar Bands depending on the epulosis tissue)

Alopecia Depending on Burn (Hair Loss) Treatment

Damage to hair follicles depending on the burn trauma and loss of hair in a large area depending on scar tissue on the skin is called burn-related alopecia. If the alopecia is in a limited area, the scar tissue can be reduced by making scar revision under the local anesthesia. When the area of alopecia is very large, the gradual treatments can be required with the help of tissue expanders called expanders.

Scar Contraction Treatment

The scar tissue that develops after burns can cause bands that can restrict the movements of patients in the hand-arm joints or neck and body parts. The contraction bands often occur in the burn areas involving the armpits, arms, and finger joints. It is possible to eliminate these formations, called burn contraction, or scar bands, with different surgical techniques.

Hot liquids like water or tea are the most frequent agents, though flame burns and chemical exposure also cause significant injuries. The degree of damage is determined by the agent’s temperature and the duration of the skin’s exposure.
Using techniques like skin grafts and tissue expansion to release contractures, which are areas where the skin has become tight and restrictive. This surgical intervention restores a natural range of motion to joints and improves overall texture.
Yes, the primary goal is to replace lost tissue and reshape the damaged zones so they blend better with surrounding healthy skin. This integrated approach restores both the physical functionality and the aesthetic harmony of the affected body part.
Regular postoperative monitoring is vital to ensure that skin grafts integrate successfully and the tissue matures correctly over time. Every treatment plan is uniquely designed to match the patient’s specific injury pattern for the most stable outcome.
