A Mommy Makeover is not a single operation. It is an individually planned combination of surgical procedures that addresses changes in the abdomen, breasts and body contours after pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. These changes differ from one woman to another, so the procedures are selected according to each patient's anatomy and needs. The aim is to consider the abdomen, breasts and waist together to achieve a natural, balanced result that suits the patient's body.
During pregnancy, the abdominal wall stretches, the abdominal muscles may separate along the midline and the skin can lose elasticity. Breastfeeding can also change breast fullness and position. Some women recover much of their previous contour with exercise and weight management after childbirth; others are left with loose abdominal skin, muscle separation, breast sagging or localized fat deposits.
A Mommy Makeover aims to address some of these lasting changes within a personalized surgical plan. There is no fixed list of procedures. At consultation, skin quality, abdominal muscle condition, breast shape and the patient's day-to-day expectations are considered together. The priority is to address the main concern with the appropriate technique. Depending on general health, the extent of surgery and operating time, procedures that cannot safely be combined may be scheduled separately.
To help maintain the results of surgery, the body first needs time to recover and settle. Timing is therefore individualized according to recovery after pregnancy, completion of breastfeeding, stable breast volume and weight, and overall health. Because another pregnancy can change abdominal and breast tissues again, women who have completed their planned pregnancies are generally more suitable candidates.
At the first consultation, your medical history, previous operations, current medications and how you gave birth are reviewed. The abdominal wall, any muscle separation, skin quality, breast tissue and fat distribution are then examined. This assessment helps establish which procedures can be performed together and which combinations may carry additional risk.
Before deciding on surgery, recovery time, the location of scars, restrictions on activity and expected results are discussed openly. The aim is not to recreate the body exactly as it was before pregnancy, but to reshape the existing tissues into a more balanced contour.
Surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a fully equipped, certified hospital. Operating time depends on the procedures planned; a combination of a tummy tuck, liposuction and breast surgery usually takes around 4–6 hours.
Incisions are planned in areas that can be covered by clothing where possible. For a tummy tuck, the incision runs along the bikini line. A breast lift involves incisions around the areola and, when necessary, extending toward the breast crease. Liposuction entry points are kept as small as possible. The incisions are carefully closed at the end of surgery; in most patients, the sutures do not need to be removed.

A hospital stay of one or two nights is usual. Tightness, swelling and bruising around the abdomen are common in the first few days. Pain is usually managed with prescribed pain relief. After a tummy tuck, a medical compression garment is worn for several weeks to support the healing tissues.
Gentle, controlled movement is started early to support circulation. Walking with a slightly bent posture may be necessary initially, with an upright posture gradually regained over the following weeks. Patients usually return to desk-based work in 2–3 weeks. Heavy lifting, abdominal exercises and strenuous sport generally require a wait of 6–8 weeks. Scars may be more noticeable during the first months and can fade over time. Follow-up appointments, prescribed compression and sun protection form part of recovery and aftercare.
Because a Mommy Makeover can involve several surgical procedures, risks may include bleeding, infection, seroma, wound-healing problems, prominent scarring, changes in sensation and thromboembolic complications. Individual risks and measures to reduce them are discussed in detail during the preoperative assessment.
No. A Mommy Makeover is not a weight-loss procedure. Weight should be stable before surgery. The aim is to address residual loose skin and contour changes after weight loss rather than to reduce body weight.
Another pregnancy can change the abdominal and breast tissues again. Patients planning a pregnancy in the near future are therefore advised to postpone surgery.
No. Surgical scars are permanent. Incisions are planned to be concealed by underwear or swimwear where possible, and appropriate aftercare can help their appearance fade over time. Skin characteristics and the individual rate of healing influence how scars look.
Suitability can only be determined through an individual assessment and examination. If you have completed pregnancy and breastfeeding, your weight is stable and changes in your abdomen, breasts or body contours persist despite exercise and weight management, you may be assessed for a Mommy Makeover.
